A continuation of my first post...

Just got a brand new TV (Sharp Aquos LC45D40U 45 inch Flat Panel LCD HDTV), hooked it up to DirecTV HD via an HDMI cord. Picture is great! But my TV's attached speaker SUCKS. I now want sound to come out of my logitech z-5500, but realize I probably needed a digital optical audio cord. I bought it off newegg and plugged it in to the logitech receiver and my TV. Nothing.

Audio is still coming out of the TV, and nothing is being sent to the logitech.

What am I doing wrong? Should I be connecting the DirecTV receiver to Logitech? Via what cords? (logitech does not have RCA/Component inputs). Or am I doing it right connecting the TV to Logitech, but I missed a step?

I have no clue, but I know i'm frustrated and want this incredible sound already!

Thanks guys,

Hubie the Nubie

Yes the Sat box should go into the AVR via fiber opt cable (10 bucks at RS)and just turn the volume on your TV all the way down.

One problem...that optical cable fit from Logitech to my TV. There is no dig opt cable from my DirecTV receiver. All there is is red/white/yellow RCA and blue/red/green component.

Help please?

The audio will continue to come out of your TV speakers unless you lower the volume.

On the Logitech Z-5500, did you press the input button until it said Optical?

For Dolby Digital mode you need to set the DIGITAL AUDIO OUTPUT audio output to Dolby Digital. On Logitech, press effects button until you see Dolby Digital Movie.

Digital Audio Output audio output setup found on page 26.

Then you should use the red and white feeds to your receiver...but maybe you ought to look a little closer at the back of your satbox: even my old Dishtv satbox had optical out. You don't see any optical plug covers on the back?

I didn't read your other post, but here's what I see here.

One problem...that optical cable fit from Logitech to my TV.
It may fit, but it's a no go as far as sound goes. The optical connection on your TV is not an input. It's an output meant to send a digital audio feed FROM your TV's internal tuner to your receiver.

There is no dig opt cable from my DirecTV receiver. All there is is red/white/yellow RCA and blue/red/green component.
That red/white/yellow combination is for composite video and right/left analog audio. That Red/Green/Blue combo is a comoponent video output.

It appears that your DirectTV receiver doesn't offer an optical digital output. If you're lucky, there may be an orange RCA plug on the STB which generally indicates a coaxial digital output. Without that, I can't see any way to get a digital audio feed from your cable box to your receiver. Just feed the red/white audio to the TV and/or your receiver and learn to love DPLII. Either that, or can you upgrade the box?
