Digital In, Analog Out

Ok, got a question that is probably easy to the experts online. I am in the middle of my equiptment setup. I will be using mostly all digital connections using component cables and optical audio. Some equiptment for example the original xbox is just analog video/audio.

Currently everything is going to the speakers so everything should work correclty. I would like to use the second room out on my receiver and have the sound go to the tv instead of the speakers as an option. I hook this setup up just as a test and i wasn't able to get it to go.

My question is, can digital audio come in and back out of the analog outputs to my second room setup? Second, if a analog video comes in or S-video and i only have 1 component cable going out to the tv will it work? I am hoping that i don't have to run both analog and digital to everything for this to work. My tv does not have digital inputs for audio.

I'm assuming you're talking about a "zone 2" setup, right?

If so, many receivers do NOT pass a digital source to these. Check your manual for more on this.

I agree with markw. Many receivers don't pass a digital source to the extra zones.

Probably due to having only one dac in the receiver.

Was a head-scratcher for me during set up too.

After reading the manual it turns out it doesn't pass the digital to analog signal. I also found out that video in to digital out doesn't pass also. What i drag...now i need to revisit the wiring i just finished!!!!. Guess im going to have to run analog audio video and s-video to the tv.

On a side not. I have two devices that i am using hte 2-video instead of the component cables because my stereo doesn't have any more incomming connections for it.

Is their a device that will split the component cable signals without having to manually switch it. Either by autodetecting or ir signal? I would rather do that instead of running new cable, as long as its inexpensive.
