what is the difference between dolby pro logic II, dolby digital, and THX?

Prologic and THX are not formats. PrologicII is a DSP for stereo and surround encoded material and THX is a post process that "helps" theoretically, and can be applied to any digital format, though I don't like the way it sounds so I don't use it.

It is also a standardization process to achieve and get closer to what was recorded at the studio.

THX also includes some processing functions that are designed specifically for home theater such as RE-EQ.
