digital coax length

two questions..
1) I think I remember reading that a digital coax can be made from regular rca's and 75ohm coax cable, is this true?

2) If so, would there be a limit to the length that could be run within reason (say about 30').

thanx

Ideally you should use 75-ohm RCAs, but regular ones should work.

As for length, you could probably get away with 100 feet. A 30ft run, providing you use a larger guage coax (18ga or 20ga), you will have zero problems.

I have a fifty foot run of RG-6 coax cable with RCA adapters linking my PC and receiver. I have had zero problems. It even goes through two inexpensive switches.
