Digital Audio Question

Heya folks. I own a denon 2106 and had been struggling with getting one of my audio sources (xbox) to output to zone2. I read in the manual today that you cannot output digial audio (which is how my xbox is connected) to zone2. First off, I don't understand why (i guess you have to spend more $$ to get that), but secondly I'm wondering if there's a workaround for that.

It's really really important to me that I'm able to output my xbox to my zone2. I just had a really large patio installed outside and my zone2 speakers are my patio speakers. I use the xbox to play my mp3 collection as well as internet radio.

I've identified one workaround as being attaching the patio speakers to the "B" selector on the a/b switch on the receiver, but I'd rather be able to have separate sources inside and outside.

Does anyone have a different suggestion of how I may accomplish this? Thanks a bunch!

Doesn't the xbox also have analog audio outs? If so, just connect them to the receiver as well. Most DVD players and cable boxes will output to both the analog and digital outs simultaneously and if that is the case for the xbox, you'll be good to go.

Unfortunately with the xbox it's digital or analog connections, not both. If you use the factory connector, you only get analog audio and video (it's a proprietary rig where there are not RCA connectors on the xbox. It's a wide, single connector into the xbox, then split into red, white, yellow on the other end.)

I purchased a high-def connector which gives me composite or s-video, and optical digital which I'm using today.

I suppose could go back to the facttory connector with just the analog connection. The high def video doesn't mean much to me, but losing the digital signal will suck.

I'm beginning to think putting the outside speakers on the B selector the only good option left . :(

Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting. I have the "advanced definition" pack that has svideo, anaog audio & optical outputs. So the Hi Def pack only has the component out & digital audio out? Bummer

Good point. I see I can purchase that same cable you have for around $15-20. I don't have the Xbox brand cable, mine is Psyclone brand or something (it was a gift), so the connectors do seem different. Off to Wal-Mart!

Thanks everyone!
