Digital Audio Optical (Toslink) merger

Is there a product out there that can merge 2 Digital Audio Outputs into 1 Digital audio input? My receiver only has 1 Digital Audio input and I was thinking that it would be nice to have both my digital cable box as well as a DVD recorder feed into the receiver.

I have seen splitters (example) for Digital Audio optical cables so that output can be fed to multiple sources. I'm not sure if this product works in the reverse as well (ie multiple sources to 1 input.

The thought just struck me that this would create problems for the receiver in determining which source to select....

Any thoughts or suggestions?

You wouldn't want to 'merge' two outputs into 1 and have both playing at the same time. The result would be noise.

What you want is a switch that accepts multiple inputs but has one output. You select which input is to be output on the switch itself. There are many such devices available. You could look at parts express, Crutchfield, Radio Shack, or the leading provider of all kinds of switches: http://www.gefen.com. Google will probably help to find many more.

Thanks for the tip.

I just bought my first home theatre system and am quickly noting the deficiencies. I can see how this gets addicting.
