if i connect my ps3's digital audio out to my samsung ln32a650 hdtv lcd which has digital audio input, and then connect the tv's audio output to my jvc hx-d77j shelf system, will the surround sound enhancement work or will it be the same as if i had just hooked my ps3 up to the jvc system directly with composite cords?

why dont you just hook your ps3 sound directly to your surround sound unit?

By running it into the TV and out again, it may or may not be passing that signal through the amplifier, it would make sense not to, but I wouldnt put it past technology to use common sense.

Another problem with that is, now your signal is being amplified before going into your surround sound, which means that the TV's volume control is going to change the volume as well as your surround sound. In some cases that means, you have to have your TV blasted all the way to get a normal signal to the other unit, but you can just mute the TV at that point.

The surround sound encoding I would think would remain intact, unless its being dropped out if the TV is processing the sound. The best way to tell is to hook it up directly to the surround sound unit, test a good clip that utilizes surround sound, then test the same clip with it running out from the TV into your surround sound.

I was doing this with my TV, and Im certain that the signal is passing through the TV's amp, when you use any of the audio outs on it. Idk why or who over looked that, but it doesnt make sense to haev an audio out thats amplified.
