Digital and Analog Sound together HELP!

I need some help getting my Sonamp 260 analog to run sound off my Harmon Kardon AVR 154.
The HK AVR 154 only has pass-thru HDMI, so I have HDMI running to both LG LCD and Dig Cable Box with sound thru a Optical Audio out at cable box...this part works fine.
Here is where I need HELP...when I connect the Sonamp to the Tape Outs as I did in my past receivers, there is no sound going to the rest of my house system. I assume it is not sending digital and ananlog sound at the same time. HK and Sonamp have been of no help yet...Any suggestions without sacrificing the digital sound on the main system or buying a new receiver?
Thanks in advance.

Note: I did read the post about this issue and addt'l Zones, but thought this might be "easier" since my rec does not have Zones and is pass-thru digital sound.

Welcome to the forum!

I'd suggest that you try this: set the receiver decoder to the stereo mode, and then see if you get any audio out through the amp. I haven't seen a reference that says that the HK can't convert digital inputs to analog outputs (although there is a statement in the manual that copyright protection might preclude it), but the owner's manual does state that digital inputs are only output as two-channel audio over the analog outputs.

Another option would be to use the headphone jack on the front panel of the HK. You could get an inexpensive cable that would convert the stereo headphone jack to two RCA connectors that you'd then connect to the amp.

Appreciate the ideas. I will try as soon as I can and let you know.

On nearly every receiver the tape outs and the audio out portion of video inputs will only output sound from an analog input. Likewise for receivers with coax or optical digital outs the sound must originate from a digital input.

If the intention is to send the analog sound to the amp and that amp drives speakers elsewhere in the house then you could connect it to the tape outs as you have now as long as the source device is also connected to the receiver using its analog outs. Most cable boxes and dvd players will output digital and analog sound simultaneously.

So I have it working not as I envisioned it at first, but nonetheless, I have it working it the right capacity & functionality...such a simple fix that I was missing until MDS metioned the simultaneously feature.

I left the main set up as is with Optical/HDMI. I then connected an Aud/Vid cable from Rec to Cable box, then a Vid cable to TV to a seperate Video Source select. The downside is no Hi Def picture, but I can now listen to Music Channels again. I was able to manage the Inputs thru my Harmony remote and Shazam!! I was in business. I then did the same thing for my Ipod on seperate source and now I am ready for summer drinks inside and out again!
