Difference b/w BLU-Ray and 1080P players?

I am totally confused----Denon's 2930CI has HDMI and is considered a 1080P
player. So are Blu-Ray players from Pioneer, Sony, and Samsung. What is the difference? Will Blue-ray DVD's only play on blue ray players and not the
2930CI ? Will be buying a 1080P (1920 X1080) LCD Flat Panel and want the
BEST player to match the display I will be using.

I am not familiar with this Denon, but unless it stated Hi-Def someplace, upsampling is not it as it just reads 480i DVD and up-converts to a TVs capability.

I'm pretty sure that the Denon is rated at being able to upconvert SD DVDs into 1080p. The Blu-Ray drive won't have to upconvert, since the disks are natively 1080p (or something, long story). If you have a giant DVD collection the Denon might be a good choice, but the Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player will (in theory) give you a better picture.

Upconverting can't add to what isn't there, it just makes it look really nice. That's how I understand it.
