Could this be his first 5-star rating? As a former bass guitarist in a Jazz band Tom is a huge fan of Jazz, though he tends to not like vocalists as too often they end up 'scatting'. Diana's performance, however, seems to have made a believer of of Tom and we encourage you to read on to find out more about what he thought of Diana's Love Scenes disc.

[Read the Review]

I have to agree with the review. This album (I have the SACD version) is amazing. After hearing about her & catching a few tracks off my local jazz station, I had to go get it. This is one of my favorite jazz albums. If you're into jazz, do yourself a favor & grab one of her albums.

I have the original cd version and thought it an excellant recording, based on that glowing review I'll have to try the DTS version and see just how much better it can get.

Love old style jazz and young beautiful singers singing it.

Just ordered mine

After reading these reviews and having about 5 of her CD's, had to give this DTS one a try. Can't wait. Got mine used off of Amazon for $9.30, new ones were $19.98 ( only one left, but more coming, it said). The next cheapest used now is $12.69.

I bought both the SACD & DVD-A versions of most of the DK discs. Without exception I felt the DVD-A version sounded better. I suppose Mtrycrafts and Chris will jump in and tell me they're identical, but that's how it sounded to my admittedly-unscientific, un-double-blind ears. ;)

Nice review Tom. I've got to admit I'm not a Jazz fan, well not really (getting to be more so just lately), but I just happen to have a couple of Diana Krall albums lying around. I was looking for opinions on what sounded good when demoing speakers and I kept hearing that Diana Krall was the way to go. I have to say she has one of the best voices I've ever heard, and everything on her albums seems to be so well done. Also she has a shocking talent that most artists today seem to lack. She can bring it live in concert. Live in Paris is a great DVD that showcases her talent.

Diana

I wonder if she will ever do an album covering her husband's work (Elvis Costello)? I'm not sure her style would fit but who knows.

Bird,
If you listen to her last cd ( girl in the other room ) I think you will hear her husbands influance.
It's not to my liking compared to her earlier work, but that's how it goes.

Actually, The Girl in the Other Room features several songs by Elvis, and the most of the rest are cowritten by him. I was initially a bit uneasy at the thought of them colaberating- would the results be "Diana Krall"? Luckily the songs are pretty good.

That's the first album with original tracks. I felt the first one was kind of tentative, but later on she seemed to gain confidence & really went for it. It almost has the feel of a live performance that gets off to a slow start. It's a pretty good album once you get through the first couple of tracks.
