Currently have the RX-V1...looking to buy the Denon AVR-3805 with the DVD-5900 for the 7.1, ilink etc..
Same power as the Yamaha...burr-brown...
Any other advantages or disadvantages to going with the AVR-3805

Is this a upgrade or is it crazy to replace the RX-V1

Thanks

I'm a big Denon fan, and I've pondered whether or not to upgrade from my 3802 to the new 3805 when it's out. But my limited experience with digital amps has really got me thinking I'd be better off to wait for them to add this technology to the upper models instead of buying another Yammy or Denon boat anchor.

Whichever you buy will be superceded pretty soon. I don't have an immense amount of confidence in the staying power of any brands direct hirez digital connection.

Denon makes a receiver with Tripath digital amps, but it's only sold in the European & Asian markets. I've been working on trying to get my hands on one of those babies.

JMOHO, and this may not be relevant to your needs, but I'm leery of buying any receiver using antiquated SS amp technology.

BTW, the '5900 is pretty expensive. Denon has hinted strongly that there'll be a more affordable model with a Denon Link output before long. The '5900 is built like a tank and I can't imagine you could go wrong with it if you can afford it, but with my budget I'll use my '2200 until things sort themselves out a bit more.

Thanks for the reply and info
...interesting about the 5900...any word if this affordable model would have DVI? The DVI was the other big thing along with FAROUDJA. The 2200 and 2900 don't have either.

I agree about budget...Just trying to save up to get the best connections and features...my RX-V1 sounds awsome but is outdated in features...and I could possibly sell for some cash.

What give you no confidence in the hirez connections...I know one downside is that you have to buy same components.

Yep, the '5900 has DVI output.

The only reservation I have is just that right now there are a lot of different, proprietary digital outputs that aren't compatible with each other. In one sense that no big deal- if you get a Denon you'll probably want a Denon player, too.

I'm really glad everyone is starting to do the hi rez digital output thing, I'm just impatient for a true standard to be universally adopted. I'm not a rich guy, and as much fun as new gear is I'd like to get off the upgrade-merry-go-round.
