Denon x6200 vs a new 2020 Denon x4700

Hi all,

New guy here and I have an add question.

I'm looking for some advice. I just sold an old Denon x3000, have my Atmos setup and am trying to decided between a used x6200 and the new x4700.

The difference I see is the al24 vs al32 and would that be a noticeable difference ?
The 6200 rates higher on the amp side than the 4700 according to this site:

Will I notice the difference / be left behind have any remorse if I go for the 6200 ?
The cost difference between them in cost is aprox 50%.

thanks
S

I've got two Denons, one with AL24 and one with AL32 but a difference due to that mysterious feature I've never noticed, I certainly wouldn't base a buying decision on that feature. The additional amp power in the 6200 isn't likely going to make much of a difference, they're less than 1dB different in respect to watts per channel rating and both with pre-outs allow significant upgrades for power if needed. They both have Audyssey XT32. A significant difference is the 4700 can use the Audyssey Editor App to customize the eq....neither of my Denons have that but wish they did for the additional functionality (like old Audyssey Pro kits provided that are no longer available and cost a lot more). Not sure what the HEOS differences are, but likely better in the 4700 in any case.

My whole house is wired with Speakercraft and volume controls, HEOS is a non issue.
The multi zone aspect is important.
I think the 6200 uses the newer Dennon app, the older app for the x3000 I really wasn't a fan of.

Would you think the Audessy Editor app functionality would be worth the 1K plus price difference ?

I would definitely take the X4700H, that has the better preamp vol control IC, and a full preamp mode. The 6200 has much better built quality in general, just too bad Denon/Marantz has not upgraded that all important IC until around 2016 so the 6200 probably just missed the boat. This alone may not be important, but then there is the 8K/HDMI2.1, HDCP2.3, eARC, Apple Air 2 etc etc.. the list just go on..

Hmmm....hard to compare as the used unit would get the depreciation advantage (but also has x amount of use inherent, too). I tend to buy new units only after they have been around a while and get discounted or refurbs become available (and just looked at A4L, the refurb price isn't much of a discount now at $1400 and out of stock too). I might instead consider other relatively current (like x500 and above series) units if I could find a deal. Supplies seem a bit short so a bit different these days as to options/discounts.

Curious, what do you need from the avr particularly to feed your zone(s)?

the x3000 I previously owned did not have ATMOS and I recently added 2 Speakercraft Atmos speakers to the wall above my left and right channel setup.
I use the zone out into a 12 channel mixer that supplies whatever we want to the house, fully wired. I did a full scale reno and decided to hard wire with ceiling speakers in multiple rooms.

The avr's zone amps feed that or you have a separate amp? Most units can provide Atmos now.....

I just missed out on a x4500 B stock unit and the sale rep suggested I look at the x4700.
There is an x6200 available for less than half the cost of the x4700. Obviously to factory warranty left which is a gamble.

I was using the x3000 as the 5.1 and the zone 2 out went to a separate 12 channel amp that handles power distribution for the whole house. Also debating putting in two more speakers the ceiling. So the traditional 5.1 setup, with 2 Atmos speakers and another 2 ceilings added at some point.
