Denon X4500H and Classic Ipod Hookup

I just received my new Denon, upgraded from a Yammi, my Yammi had a dedicated Ipod dock, the Denon does not, I tried the USB and my Ipod does nothing. My Ipod is a 160 gig classic with 2500 songs, how do I play music on this thing?

You need to get an 1/8” stereo jack to rca and plug into any of your audio in analog jacks on back. Not the phono, though.

So I'm guessing with that set up, I will not be able to use the remote control to operate pause, play or advance songs like on the Yamaha?

Correct.
Preferred option would be to stream over wired Ethernet from Apple Music, for example. (Spotify/tidal/etc) I used to run the same set up; iPod classic into my Marantz. Getting wired improved my sound quality, and my options.
