ive been waiting for the x1300 to go on sale for $300 or less
but today frys has the x1400 for $260 total

is the only difference the 1400 has heos? i dont care about that. should i keep waiting for a sale on the 1300?

If you can get the 1400 for less than the 1300 go for it, they're very similar otherwise (or use the comparison tool at the Denon site to see if there's any other difference but Heos...).

i got the 1400 but quick question
for now im using it on my computer for strictly 2 channel music, youtube etc.

does it matter if i connect a pair of speakers to the front r/l terminals, or should i connect them to zone 2 (surround back)?

just want to get the best sound and amplification

the manual is confusing i guess, both surround back and pre outs are named zone 2. not using an external amplifier

On your main LR, especially if you want to use the RC

Generally main L/R would give you the best options (like Audyssey mentioned). Sounds like with your zone 2 you have the option of using the built-in amps for surround back or an external amp thru the pre-outs.

i tried lfe plus main and towers set to large, switched back to bypass l/f several times to see which one i like better. for music only.

something odd happened though

lfe plus main and towers set to large. when i went to speaker options, crossovers for towers said full, and greyed out. so i knew the settings were correct

but while switching back and forth i tried lfe plus main again. but this time in speaker options, towers said large, but not full in crossovers. crossovers still said 80.
wondering if i forgot something

On my Denon the speaker configuration screen would use large/small terminology; the crossover configuration screen when speakers are set to large, will say "full band" rather than a specific crossover frequency....

Could just be a glitch, try a soft reset and see if that persists.

My son just picked up one of those too, his from Best Buy, for the same price. He speaks glowingly of it as well.

if anyones curious.

i got it to say "full" now instead of 80 crossover
bass cant be set to lfe plus main, so i set it back to lfe and voila

now im experimenting between large and small at 80 crossover, always bypass l&r
