I am trying to decide on a reciever to go with my NHT SB2s, my Pinnacle Digital Sub 350, and my Harman Kardon DVD 101. I have found great deals on the Denon AVR-3801 and the Marantz SR7200. Anyone have an opinion of one of these units over the other? Your help is greatly appreciated.

If i were you i would try both with your current surround setup and see how it would sound. also i would like to add to try the new Denon AVR-3805 and the Marantz SR-7400. I love both brands next to Yamaha, but I probably opt for the Marantz.

I've owned a Marantz 6200 for a couple of years now for my H.T. system and am impressed with how you can keep pushing it with more demanding music without a hint of sounding limited. However, I've found the remote to have a sensitive sweetspot, and had a problem (not worth shipping back to get fixed) with one of the s-video outputs. I simply changed to another output. I also have owned a Denon reciever (can't recall the model) for 3 or 4 years for my stereo only system, which I highly recommend for sound quality as well. Rely on your personal preference and what kind of deal you can get. I got my Marantz (refurbished) through accessories4less.com

I really can't give good advice, but only relate my experiences with trying to listen to Denon products. The last time I found a dealer that carried both Marantz and Denon products, the dealer actively tried to steer me towards the Marantz product and away from the Denon. I could never quite figure out why, but they did - not only on the receivers, but on DVD players as well. Also, when I've been looking to purchase a new universal player, I had most dealers that also carry Denon push me towards other lines - Yamaha, Marantz, Integra. Again, when I inquired about this, they all complained about prior reliability problems, and the like. Kinda strange....

Ultimately, I ended up ordering the Denon DVD 2900, but it has been an interesting experience.....

That particular marantz (the 7200) was plagued with problems...power and reliability... Also, I'd probably go with denon over a marantz...but thats just me. Their units usually mean what they say, and say what they mean. I just can't say the same for h/k.

best,

I ended up going with the NAD C370 integrated amplifier. I realized I didn't need a home theater receiver for what I wanted to do, and although I lose some flexibility and hookup options, I do get better sound for my speakers.

Not yet burned in, just received it today but thus far it is fantastic. It solves all the problems I originally had with my Denon AVR-1604. The treble is very apparent but not bright or hissing. It has a more laid back sound but is still very musical involving. If anyone has a two channel system, get a 2 channel amp. The sound is well worth what you lose in convenience.
