I never thought I would see the day when a manufacture would incorporate
Teranex technology into a DVD player and then have the player sell for $3000
For all you that don't now who Silicon Optix are they are the folks that manufacture the
Teranex video processor that only the Bill Gates type folk could acquire
This truly is an exiting day for videophiles around the world with meager budgets This product and the announcement of Teranex (Silicon Optix)
entering the consumer market place with the Realta processor has to be one of the biggest stories out of CES this year please read this link for more info

PS the best FP set up I viewed was also at the Silicon Optix booth

Not arguing the technology or the potential advancement in video here, but is it worth sinking three grand into a machine with all the formats about to change ?

Shouldn't we wait six or eight months for HD or BluRay to come on board before committing that level of funding into a player, if we can assume that the same technology would be available in machines with the new formats ? :(

Leprkon...I totally agree with you. I would by the Denon flagship if it could be upgraded via software for one of the new formats.

Can anyone tell me what would be the most noticable difference in picture quality would be in this unit when companring it to the 2910 or 3910?

Here is a question that I posted on the thread announcing this product that no-one replied to:

I don't understand why it needs the Realta HQV processing and DVDO-HD scaling. I thought the Realta HQV processing was the best thing since sliced bread and did everything you could possibly want. Sounds like it just being used as an MPEG2 decoding chip.
Anyone have an idea? What's wrong with the scaling in the Realta HQV chip?

Hi
We have been waiting 6-8 months for HD DVD for 3 years now
all the manufactures I talked to that produce hardware said end of 2005 for HD-DVD,Maybie Why do you want the Silicon Optix processing in the DVD player?
Because it is most likely the best processor that you can buy This processor has the ability to reduce jaggies at very steep angles, other processors only reduce at lower angles. The detail level than can be obtained with this processor is stunning and it incorporates excellent noise reduction
At the Silicon booth they had two identical displays one running a 1080I
HDTV signal the other running 480 through the processor It was very tough to tell the difference between the two. I care less about the DVD player what I want is the chipset that is in it, I have been lusting for a Teranex processor for years now and it was about $15,000 above of my budget

Anyone that honestly believed that HD DVD was 6 months out three years ago was pretty gullible. But by the same token, it's obvious that the concept of an HD disc format has picked up momentum. Perhaps still a year or more out, but it's inevitable IMO. $3k for a DVD player is way too much for me, given the impending arrival of HD, but to be fair $3 is over my budget in any event. If I had a lot of money and could plunk down that kinda coin at the drop of a hat, I'd definately buy one. The best is the best, even if it may only be the best for a year or so.
