I had been looking for a setup that either required no rear speakers or used wireless ones. I ended up pickup up a Denon S-101 setup this weekend but before taking it out of the box I am having some second thooughts. I had looked at the YSP-1, but thought it was just a little out of my pice range, especially since I would most likely want to but a Sub as well. At the store I listened to the Boston Sound bar and the S-101. I think the SoundBars surround was a tad better then the S-101, but I really liked the fact the S-101 had the ipod input. Any way I at Best Buy and saw teh YSP-800. After reading some reviews I am wondering if I would be better off taking the S-101 back and getting a YSP-800 along with a YST-FSW100 sub. I know I will lose the ipod direct connection but can just use a Mini to RCA for that. I have another DVD player that I could use that has HDMI/Coax outs if I went the Yamaha route.

The setup is for a 42" Sony LCD Projection TV, will be used 50/50 for movies and music. I am probably more concered about the music sounding good then the surround being 100% accuracte. Also due to the shallow depth of the room the seating is against the rear wall, and the side walls are good 10ft either way from the center. In reading reviews of the YSP-800 someone commented that having the seating against the wall was potentially a problem so that alone may make the choice for me.

So just looking for some feedback or opinions.

Please let me know which choices you made & how it worked out. I'm looking @ the Yamaha DSP products (-1/-800/-1000) and their subs (YST-FSW100) to hook up to a YAMAHA RX-V1600 A/V RECEIVER. It appears to me that the -800 would be for a smaller room. I'm not sure of the diff 'tween the -1 & -1000 DSPs... But, even Yamaha's website recommends additional sub(s) for their -800 & -1000.

Most of these components are available (new) on ebay @ big savings over Tweeter, BestBuy, etc..... Advice welcome!

Room config for Yamaha YSP

The Yamaha YSP will perform best in a small square room with the listening position in the middle of the room and walls on all sides. If your room does not meet this criteria, then you won't get the surround effect that the YSP is capable of. Read the audioholics review of the YSP-1. Like you suggested, you will also need a sub, but I would stay away from Yamaha. Check out the small subs from SVS or HSU. Also, this new product from AV123.com should perform and look good for $200.

The denon 101 should make a good 2.1 system in is superior to similar products from Bose.
