Denon Reciever Questions

I am planning on getting a Denon reciever in the next 2 weeks or so from Best Buy. I am currently running the Klipsch Quintet SL speakers but will hopefully be upgrading to reference series eventually. I am wondering which Denon reciever you would reccomend. It doesn't seem like there's much difference in them besides wattage which really doesn't make that big of a difference. Any input would be great. Thanks.

Hey first of all welcome to the forum
i own a denon 789 and it runs my klipsch f-1s very nicely depending on budget i guess is what you will end up going with though all denon receivers are great IMO but if i had no budget i would certainly love having the 5308ci just for the fact of having one so what budget are we on here and ill give you more opinions/receiver choices and advice

Advise us of a budget, the size of your room, and listening habits/preferences and we will be better able to give you an idea of which model will be best for you. You have said you will be running Klipsch speakers which are an extremely efficient and sensitive brand, so depending on how you listen the Denon will do just fine in powering the speakers. If you are looking for the most solid performance and features from the Denon line the 2809ci and 3808ci---both of which will give you all you would need to power Klipsch speakers and enjoy both HT and music...

The 3000 series on up you can get Dynamic EQ, Dynamic Volume Pro calibration. I have the 3808 and purchased because you can do updates right through a internet connection, plus the onscreen GUI is a nice bonus.

6th Avenue is an authorized Denon dealer and had a coupon for 25% floating around. I'd probably get a receiver from there unless you can get a really good deal from BB.

The 2809 has the Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume as well....the 2808 did not however....I think they might have even put the GUI on the 2809 but would have to confirm that...

i think that all denons from the 589 upward include the new audysey dynamic volume and dynamic eq from what ive read (if i read correctly that is )

the 2309 and 2809 are very good amps and i think as mentioned b4 should easily run klipsch speakers if it were me i would definetly be looking at them maybe the 3808 also once again though depends on budget because of how efficient they are though the amps mentioned above should run your klipsch without a problem

Honestly my budget is very flexible. Right now I have the money available to drop on the 3808 which retails at best buy at 1700. Obviously I am going to shop around the market and see who else has it for cheap as well but thats where I'm sitting probably topping out right now is about 1500 but the extra 200 wouldn't be a problem to drop on my new reciever. Thanks everybody for your replies. It all helps a lot.

Oh I forgot to put in what I'm using it for. Its going to be hooked up with my Xbox360 for games and a Blu Ray player for movies. Thats solely what its going to be used for. Also here is another way to look at it. If I do upgrade I'm going with reference series Klipsch. Which series exactly I'm not sure probably the RC-62 which is http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/rc-62.aspx and for floorstanding probably the RF-62 http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/rf-62.aspx or the RF-82 http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/rf-82.aspx. So in your opinions obviously thats is a big jump from what I have but what reciever would you guys say would be able to handle those speakers well. From what I've read around wattage doesn't mean much its more with sensitivity so does getting a bigger wattage reciever even make it worth the money? Thanks a lot for the help with this, it sure beats the hell out of talking to the people that work at best buy and circuit city lol.

If it were me, I'd spend the least amount that I could to get the features that I want. My current receiver cost me $450. Granted, I ended up adding an amp that made a nice improvement, but my speakers have a sensitivity of 85 dB, which is a lot lower than those Klipsch that you are considering.

I bought bleeding edge once. A $1000 Yamaha that was the first with Dolby Digital to hit that price point. I was so happy, but within a year, you could get that and DTS for cheaper.

My current buying philosophy is this: buy a mid-level receiver that has the features that I want, and within a year or two, I can buy another mid-level receiver that has the same or more features than today's high-end receivers and have the total cost be the same or less than if I bought a high-end receiver today.

I like your theory but I'm not quite sure that I have the money to be buying a reciever every couple years. Really the technology thats out there now will certainly keep me happy for a very long time.
