I have a Denon 2809. I liked the sound fine when I was with Directv. Recently switched to DishNetwork and the sound doesn't not sound as good. Has anyone else had this experience? Any suggestions on what I should try?

Sounds like the output from the Dish box isn't as good as the DTV box. They may use a different compression method which is making the audio sound different. I'm not sure how you could fix it. What doesn't sound the same?

Since switching to Dish Network the dynamic sound is not as soft. Any suggestions appreciated since I am in a 2 year contract with Dish Network now. If I had known changing satellite providers would have effected the sound I would not have switched. Now I'm stuck!

If you're not satisfied and that can't fix the issue, you should be able to get out of it. I had Time Warner and for all they talk about having "Digital Quality Sound", they can kiss my butt. TW's audio is terrible in a lot of cases and the variation from channel to channel was ridiculous. I switched to DirecTV and the sound is great. The music channels, which were ALL XM before are now a mix of XM and Sirius, as you know. I can definitely tell which are the Sirius channels, that's for sure.

If the problem with DirecTV was the price, beat them up for discounts. I just did that because my bill was up to $95 and I don't have any pay channels, but I do have the 4 receivers they offered when I signed up. After explaining that it's just TV and not a life altering experience & that if they want to keep jacking the prices without telling people I would leave, they made quite a few "adjustments".

With any provider of entertainment/media/cell phone and other things that aren't actual necessities, they often will drop the price if it keeps people from leaving.

Could you be specific please, on what model receiver you have from Dish and connection method used to your Denon (optical, L/R stereo etc.) vs previous provider equipment.

Thanks

My previous equipment with Directv was a HR-20. Now with DishNetwork I have a VIP-722K DVR. My AV Receiver is a Denon 2809.

Connection now with Dish Network: From satellite box to receiver out to TV with HDMI. Same hook-up was with DirectTv, the only difference is the satellite box. Called Dish Network, they could not give any solutions. They just recommend try a new HDMI cable, which is not the problem. Because the same HDMI cable worked/sounded fine with the Directv. The sound now just sounds flat.
