Denon receiver, Bose speakers- can it work?

Good afternoon, I am new to the forum but I have already gained a new appreciation for what you all know. If this question has been answered elsewhere, my apologies and would appreciate a point in that direction. My old Bose lifestyle 5 (16 years old) subwoofer finally died but cube speakers appear to still work. However, i'd like to move away from Bose and here is my thought to see if this would work-

Can I buy a Denon receiver, an Orb subwoofer to begin and connect my bose cube speakers to the Denon (since they can't go through the subwoofer)? My cubes don't have any weird Bose connectors- just plain two-prong speaker wire so that doesn't seem to be an issue, but wondering about the power-part. The goal is to replace them, but budget is tight so its a step at a time. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated. Of course, Bose is no help when you ask anything about mix and match. Thank you.

You can get the bass module replaced at a Bose store. You can connect the cubes to a different receiver, however they don't have crossovers built in, the crossover is in the bass module and most receivers don't have a crossover high enough for these cubes so that is an issue. You will also basically have to cut the harness and connect those wires, something that is a big no-no if you want to sell the package complete and the package is worth a lot more complete.

Thank you. The problem is I'm quoted over $200 to fix a 16 year old subwoofer. I was hoping I could mix at least for now. Oh well. Thank you for the input- I appreciate it.

Option B is to look for second hand AcoustiMass module, but this forum isn't exactly Bose friendly and I think bserk, you were lucky j_garcia was here first to provide correct and neutral answer instead of typical pitches and forks you'd get from most of members

Honestly if you're gonna stick with the Bose cubes for the long haul, don't spend more than about $300 on an A/V receiver. I recommend selling your cubes on Ebay and then focusing on buying a complete 5.1 A/V system. There are many options for small speakers that will perform better than the Bose cubes.

I can't tell you how heartbreaking it is when I visit friends and family homes that just spent over $1k on a brand new A/V receiver to power their cubes.
