Full Audioholic
Added a 3802 to the collection (I think now only my bathrooms don't have full-blown 5.1 system). Connected old faithful Pioneer ld player to recv'r. Coax out of ld to recvr's only coax digi in. No audio. I don't get it. I set decode to auto as well as manually chose between auto, pcm, dts, etc. Nothing. I made sure digi assignments were correct and still no audio. Ld player has no setup menu so that is not an issue. Checked cable with another component and it is fine. Now, the ld's jacket/sleeve has the Dolby digital logo so I should be getting digi audio correct? Manual states that it will or should play anything with DD logo as well as DD AC-3 logo. I then connected the two units via a set of rca's. I then got sound. The DD indicator light does not light up on recv'r I suppose because rca's will not carry a digi signal. Are older ld's DD stereo rather than discrete 5.1 soundtracks? And even so...should the DD indicator light be lit when the ld is played. Confused. I could live with it and just matrix it via PLII or another acceptable dsp mode but am I missing something? Perhaps I should put it back on the shelf and just use my Oppo/dvd. Thanks in advance.
