Hey Guys,

After a whole lot of looking around searching the net, digging into pockets I have narrowed it down to getting a HTIB package opposed to separates however at this point am kinda stuck as am getting mixed reviews for the Denon & Onkyo Receivers.

The packages are as follows
Onkyo TX-SR506 + Jamo S416 HCS1 or
Onkyo TX-SR506 + Jamo A102 HCS5

Denon AVR1709 + Pure Acoustics EX650 or
Denon AVR1709 + Pure Acoustics Junior

Factors considered is the fact that I live in a studio apartment and the living space is approximately 100 - 120 sq.ft so it ain't a big living area that I would need top notch speakers and AVR plus the fact how much can I sheel out to get a good quality Home theatre experience.

Other equipment that I own is a Full HD Samsung LCD and a Samsung HDMI dvd player that upscales.

So here I am asking you gus to help me narrow it down to 1 set.

Thanks
Amit

You won't have any issues with power with either of the receiver choices. I am a fan of Onkyo receivers (it's really the only brand I ever buy). The 5xx series is Onkyo's 'entry level' line but they are packed with features and are extremely easy to set up and use, not to mention the fact that Onkyo's manuals are well written and easy to understand - you can learn a lot about a/v setup just by reading Onkyo manuals.

You can choose whatever speakers you like best unless for some reason the place you are buying from only offers a certain brand paired with a certain receiver. Just make sure the speakers are no lower than 6 Ohms nominal.

Hi MDS,

Thanks for your reply. That is exactly it the store is giving those speakers as a package.

Now I was going through the knowledge base on audioholics and another website, where it mentioned for a space as small as mine its best not to have floor standing speakers rater to get satellites. Is that true?

I would suggest the Jamo. I'm unfamiliar with Pure Acoustics, but Jamos make nice speakers and Onkyo makes great entry level receivers.

Denon's are great, but you will want to toss the manual as it's very poorly written.

Cool guys thanks for the info. Now that bring me to the second question ;)

If i were to go with Onkyo and the Jamo package, which of the 2 is the suggested one, I just measured up the living space its 125 sq.ft beyond this is my bedroom area and there is no wall partition in between. As such should it be the satelite speakers as I read on a knowledgebase or I can go for the floor standing front speakers?

Thanks again

Cheers

Honestly I don't see either as a good choice.

It's better to have a nice pair of bookshelves than 5 small satellite speakers.

Are you in the US?

What's your budget?

I agree with lsiberian. Blow it on the speakers first. I'd even get some outdated garage sale receiver for now, if that would let me get decent speakers to begin with. Modern receivers are generally designed to be ruler flat, as long as they aren't clipping, whereas with speakers, the greatest variations in SQ are found, as far as AV purchasing choices.

Spend first where electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy, because this is the toughest part: Speakers.

Am based in Dubai, UAE not the US. Most people here get the home theatre packages such as those from Samsung, LG, Sony etc. and only a few go with the av receiver and speaker combination.

Secondly I can only stretch my budget onto 650 USD which includes receive and the speakers.

Staying in Dubai does have its shortfalls, your choices are limited in certain aspects.

Cheers

Well I would rather be in Dubai at the beach then in my home theater. :) I suggest you get a nice pair of bookshelves instead of a samsung, lg or sony package.

Do yall have Cerwin Vegas maybe?

LOL nice thought,

I enjoy the comfort of my home more than the sticky weather at the beach ;)

We don't have Cerwin Vega here.

what we get is Harmon Kardon, JBL and Infinity. Then we have package deals of Onkyo, Denon, Marantz, Yamaha and a couple of places selling Pioneer.
