Denon Martantz or Panasonic DVD Palyer... which One?

I presently have a denon 1930 dvd player and it terms of performance I was quiet happy and satisfied. However the lens in the denon got bad just about in an years time.......... i need to replace the dvd player.... i have short listed three...... all in my budget....... 1. Denon DVD 1940 2. Marantz DV 6001 3. Panasonic Blue Ray DMP-BD 30 I am using panasonic PT Ax 100 projector which needs an 1080p HDMI input. On the audio front I am using a bose lifestyle 50 system. Please advice which of the above dvd players you would suggest..... if I get the panasonic DMP-BD 30, will it do a good upscale on standard dvds to 1080p, will it be region free....... or panasonic Blue Ray is not worth, since I am not planning to use any blue ray discs in near future.... so then which is better the denon or the marantz... or i should get the panasonic Blue Ray itam really confused.... please help!!!!!! thansk a bunch

Of those three, the BD-30. I have a friend who is selling one also, I put it in the classifieds area here and I can put you in touch with him. The BD-35 is due out however and might be worth waiting for, as well as the forthcoming Oppo BD player. At this point and roughly your price point, there is no reason to buy a SD DVD player. I can't tell you if the BD-30 is region free, but the upscaling is supposed to be good not great.

I have the DMP-DB30 and it works very well. Panasonic also provides firmware upgrades. I am not using it to upconvert so i can't commenton that. Any upconversion I have needed ( LOL from VHS) i am doing through Marantz AVR.
I like the quality of Marantz, but have no experience with thier DVD player. I previously had an older Denon DVD player; iti s now in the garage to play CDs on my garage ssytem. Don't remebr the model about 6 years old, but never had any problems.

I am a bit confused...

How many DVDs do you typically watch a week? What kind of movies do you like? How many movies do you own? How often do you rent?

If you own a ton of DVDs and really care about the upconversion of those discs, then the Oppo Digital is one of the best on the market for this end goal and at the price.

If you don't own a lot of movies, then I would have to wonder why would would say that you won't be renting on Blu-ray - especially with a front proejctor. The difference I see between upconverted DVD and Blu-ray on my projector is significant, and immediately noticable.

If your projector is a PT-AX100U projector, from Panasonic, then you would be best sending a 720p source to it (not 1080p) as that is the native resolution of the projector, and will produce the best results typically. Since DVD is 480i, you are definitely missing out when you don't take advantage of the best source.

But, a large DVD collection begs for a quality upconverting DVD player, and the Panasonic is not going to deliver the best in quality for upconversion.

But, the average Blu-ray is going to blow the pants off the best DVDs for quality - especially on a 100"+ screen with front projection.

I just borrowed my brother's EE version of Fellowship of the Ring. I know these discs are so extremely well mastered in video and audio. Even this great DVD looked super soft, very small color palette, and special effects were extremely easy to discern (when any of the various persons put on the ring, you can see the outline of their person before they disappear, etc).

I put this in my HD-A35 as its much better for SD-DVD than my BD-30.

I cannot remember this big of a jump in improvement, whether audio or video. I'm sure its happened, but I just don't remember it. I think its bigger than DVD over VHS, but then again I watched on a much smaller display in those days... which is an all important factor... but still!!!

I, however, cannot wait for the BD releases of the LOTR movies. They will be phenomenal, of course. I am guessing two years from now, or so...

I put in Monster's Inc the other day and actually even during the "DO NOT COPY THIS DISC" BS intro, I noticed that it was significantly fuzzy, even upscaled on my 980.
