Denon LINK Question

I'm totally embarassed to be posting this question, but here goes...

I have a Denon 3805 receiver and a Denon 3910 universal player. If I use the Denon LINK between the player and receiver, do I still have to use the 5.1 analog connectors in order to achieve Dolby Digital and DTS audio from sources that use those formats?

If yes, then what is the benefit of the Denon LINK?

Thanks for not laughing at me...

The Denon Link (digital connection) is supposed to take the place of the 6 analog inputs, for sacd/dvd-a music discs. Since you use the EXT. IN setting (I think), when listening with this, I'm not sure how it's gonna do with movies in DD or DTS. I'd still use the digital coax or optical, for movies in the dvd setting. (Do you still use the EXT. IN setting, when using the Denon Link?)
Try a movie both ways, and see which sounds better. Let us know your results?
Good luck! :)

No. You will need the 5.1 analog connectors only for SACD.

I have a 3910 connected to a 5803A. I use multichannel connections for SACD/DVD-AUDIO. I use optical for everything else. You don't need denon link to decode DD,DTS and PLIIx. But I also tried using the denon link. If you want you can try it also. If I use the denon link to pass DVD-AUDIO signals the dislay of the 5803 flashes 96khz. I guess to answer your question, what's the benefit of denon link? It's another digital connection similar to optical or coaxial.

The only advantage I see to using the DenonLink is that should Sony one day allow SACD to be carried via DenonLink then you'd only need one cable from the player to the receiver. Until that time, DenonLInk can carry everything EXCEPT the SACD (so you still need the 5.1 analog hookups). That means you use the DACs in the player for SACD and the DACs in the reccy for the rest.

Bryan...I'm not holding my breath...

consider the ieee link from the 3910 to the new avr-5805 or to the 5803 if it has ieee then you can transmit both dvd-audio and sacd (or so I have been told) I just ordered the 3910 and the 5805!

Any update on SACD support through the Denon Link?

Didn't I say "don't hold your breath "? :)

Honest, the first time I heard about the Denon Link supporting SACD must've been at least two years ago...and back then it wasn't a new concept. Trust me; when (if) Denon gets approval they'll trumpet it from the rooftops-you won't have to look here for an update. Patience Grasshopper, you'll have to wait.

Bryan...I fear you'll be waiting quite a while, though...
