I have a Denon 3910 DVD connected to a Denon 3805 AVR. I use this for both music (CD, SACD and DVD-Audio) and DVD movies. I have the following connections from the DVD to the AVR:
Digital Coax
Denon Link
Analog 5 channel
I think I have too many cables options here and it makes the selection process much more difficult. I want the best 5 channel sound possible when playing DVD’s and I want the best 5 channel for SACD and DVD-Audio. I like both 2 & 5 channel options for standard music CD’s.
I am aware of the new Denon Link 3rd Edition SACD certification but there is a disclaimer on Denon’s website (ADDENDUM TO NEWS RELEASE REGARDING ADVANCE APPROVAL OF DENON LINK INTERFACE FOR THE UPCOMING 2.0 SACD SPECIFICATION) that says Denon Link 3rd Edition only supports the new 2.0 SACD format and not the current 1.3 SACD. This seems to indicate that the new Denon Link 3rd edition is incompatible with the current 1.3 SACD media and that it will be 12-24 months before the new media is available. To me that means that upgrading to Denon Link 3rd Edition is pointless.
Confusing isn’t it? I bet all of you Separates/Yamaha guys are getting a kick out of this. Back to my question, can someone who has similar equipment recommend the best connect and Input/Output options for music and movies on my devices?
