I Presently own the DENON DVM3700 and am looking at replacing this unit with a new universal player. My receiver is the DENON AVR4800. I have been going back and fourth between the 2900 and the 5900. My AVR4800 does not have the variable crossover 40,60,80,100 that all the newer receivers have. Is that feature on the DVD player rendered useless because my recceiver does not have this feature or is it time to part with my receiver as well?

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks,
Jake

The bass management on your receiver won't make any difference one way or the other, when your source is either SACD or DVD-A. For SACD and DVD-A, you will be connecting the player to the receiver through the 5.1 analogue connections. You will set the bass management in your new 2900 or 5900 and pass it on, already bass managed, to the receiver. So, hang on to your receiver. It's still fine.
For Dolby Digital or DTS, you can use a digital connection, i.e., a coaxial or an optical connection.

I've just had my Denon 2900 set up along with a Pioneer Elite VSX 43 receiver and am stunned to find out that there is no bass management capability (or my a/v expert couldn't figure out how to get the signal to my powered subwoofer).

Any ideas?

Hmmm...the '2900 has very complete bass management. What is the problem you're having? Have you delved into the menus thoroughly?

My '2200 isn't identical to the '2900, but it's nearly so; I haven't had any problems with b/m not functioning, although it takes some tweaking to get it adjusted correctly.

Yes, the DVD2900 has bass management. For each speaker that you set to "small", the frequencies below 80 Hz will be cut-off and will go through the LFE port.

So :
-Bass management only on the channels set to "small"
- And only one fixed cross-over frequiency of 80 Hz.
