I finally installed my dvd200 and have a few questions. Is it normal for such a low sub output for dvda/sacd? I did all the speaker setups and with my meter speakers could only set to 73db.The sub stayed very low. Also the dvda and sacd(hybrid) i could play on my previous dvd player(non universal) but on the denon i have to use the ext of my receiver.I'm assuming the denon auto detects that its dvda or sacd and defaullts auto to that mode which is why i have to use the ext.Wold appreciate any insights since i'm trying to fine tune.thanks

Don't know about the sub volume, but regarding the ext -- your previous player, a non-universal, played the DTS/Dolby Digital layer of DVD-As and the stereo layer of the SACD. The high resolution portion of DVD-As and SACDs are playable only through the multichannel analog inputs, so on your new universal player, you need to switch your receiver to ext. I don't know about your receiver, but my receiver doesn't automatically switch over either. I need to do it myself. Good luck with the fine tuning!

cheers,

Check the menu to see if you have the +10dB offset for hires turned off. It sounds like you do. I think it is in the last menu (not sure), where you also will tell the player whether it should default to video or audio for DVD-As. To hear the high resolution tracks, you must set this to Audio.

DVD-A and SACD audio can ONLY be passed via analog with this player. Since it's analog, it's decoded already, so the receiver doesn't have to detect anything. The player knows what type of disc is being played automatically, and it will display some info as to what is being played on the front panel.

The +10db is set to on and the default is set to audio. As far as the dts/dolby digital layer of the dvda's and stereo of the sacd i guess it wont play these layers since it defaults to the resolution portion.I guess if i wanted to play the non resolution layers i'll just stick it in my cd player.I dont care but if family wants to hear the cd they wont be able to use the denon.

I know my DVD-As always default to multichannel too, but they all have a menu from which you can select stereo or multichannel. For SACD, there is a button on the front panel to select the layer, however this button is not available on the remote.

For the sub level then, what do you have the speaker level settings in the player's setup at? See if the sub is turned down in there, or the other speakers are adjusted up.

I figured out what the problem was.It wasnt anything to do with the player.I had to go into the receiver in the sub setup for multi change the sub level which was at 0.After i changed it i was able to recalibrate the speakers/sub in the player again and now everything is fine.I finally realized all the whoopla about dvda/sacd.Man it sounds fantastic.Wish i had done it sooner. This denon dvd2200 is fantastic audio and video.I can only imagine what the dvd2900 is like since most people say it's the better player.Regardless i'm totally satisfied.

Video is slightly improved with the 2900, but the audio portion is noticably better with the better Burr-Browns in there and the larger more sturdy chassis & power supply. I have no complaints about this player.

Congrats! :D

Do you know how old this player is? There's a firmware update available here.

The update applied to only a handful of discs, AFAIK, so it's only important if you have one of those discs. Diana Krall: Live in Paris was one I had prior to the update, and I had problems with the DTS track only. After the update, no problems.
