Thanks Gene.

The 5900 looks like a formidable machine, but with an MSRP of $2000 (the price looks formidable also). I currently own a 2800mkII, and quite disappointed with the infamous chroma bug. I have to "untrained" myself not to look for it.

Glad to see that Denon is incorporating the Faroudja chip. IMHO, the Faroudja chip provides for a smoother panning than the Silicon Image chip.

Look forward to your review.

I ordered a DVD-5900 last week from elegantaudiovideo.com. It should arrive later this week. Denon includes the digital link interconnect, so if you have an AVR 5300, you save on 5.1 analogue interconnects, not to mention a coaxial or optical digital connection. Price is $1,550 plus shipping.

could you add the 2200 into the comparison?

Not sure if that one will get reviewed... We're already doing the 2900 and the 5900... which will hopefully give you an idea that Denon either knows it's stuff and has a good bang for the buck or not. But who knows.

could you compare the analog output stages of both players? I think this was the area of the 2900's design most criticized by audiophiles.

Also, what is this Denon proprietary clock synchronization you mention? Can this player accomodate the audiocom superclock mod?

Thanks for your first look - the first I've seen. I've no doubt the 5900 will be one of the best dvd-video players out there. Like the previous poster, I'm more interested in the quality of the audio through cables and then a comparison between that and the sound through the Denon link and i-link. I hope you can tell us about that in some detail and perhaps in comparison with other high resolution audio decks you've tested. I hope I'm not asking for too much. Thanks again.

Hi 2 all

For a long time I have trying to find out any information about DENON 5900 ... and I have find it here
As for me - his little brother Denon 2900 does not worthy of special attention (it have been tested by your servant !ONLY AS DVD PLAYER! ;) In my humble opinion, it is better then PHILIPS 963SA[$405 in Moscow] but it's not at all then PIONEER 757A[$800 in Moscow] and finally it have been slaughted by TOSHIBA SD-9500E[$1350 in Moscow] Progressive PAL does not supported by two last players but nevertheless ... ) Unfortunately I have not got of any possibility to testing DENON 5900 - there is not in Moscow just now
Please , do it (I mean test) as fast as possible but as always thoroughly ;) Besides , It will be very interesting to compare DENON 5900 with Sony DVP-NS999ES .

Always yours Victor from Moscow.
