Yesterday I picked up Shrek 2 the DTS version. I found it used and it is quite hard to find this DTS version.

So I play it and my display goes black, my set up menus will not appear, and the DVD won't even stop when I push stop. The sound on my Denon 3805 receiver said "stereo" and would not go to DTS or DD. I had to turn off the power and reset the player to factory settings. I tried other DVD's and they were fine. The disc would not play after factory settings restored either.

Can anybody suggest what happened? Has anybody experienced this?

The Shrek 2 DVD played in my Yamaha DVD 657 in my bedroom. That player plays everything it seems, even DivX.

Again, I wonder about Denon sometimes. I don't want to lose faith in this player, but it seems finicky.

Thanks guys,

JC

Just a disc that the player doesn't like. I had one disc that did something similar to my 2200.

Why would I hear the sound briefly on start up, without picture, then it froze ? And when I pushed "set up" on the player, nothing on screen, not even the blue screen? Very odd. I got a little scared something was wrong with my player/ HDMI cable, or reciever. It did it on component too so it was not a HDMI issue.

I took the DVD back today but after I did, I thought I should have copied it and tried that disc just to see if it was the disc itself.

Could it be a PAL/NTSC issue? My 2910 has firmware update for multi region I thought.

I don't think it is PAL/NTSC, it may just be something weird about that particular disc. I have one disc that won't play in my 2900 but it plays fine in my PS2 and my old Sony DVD player. The one disc that I had the the 2200 had a problem with, the menu would come up, but as soon as you went to play the movie, it would freeze every time. I can't tell you why, just that sometimes it happens I guess.

Is it a factory original or a bootleg by chance?

I'd take Schrek 2 back and exchange it if I were you, probably a defective disc.
I recently bought a Police album on DVD-A, it would only play the first three tracks, then it froze. I took it back to Best Buy and exchanged it for another copy. The new one works perfect.

Thanks guys...I took it back but could not exchange it for the same as it was the only one being used. maybe it was a bootleg copy. Anyways, I did exchange it for a Doors DVD, called "The Doors Collection"..it's almost 3 hours, 3 concerts on one DVD. I am happy.
