Denon DVD-2910 Firmware Update

I see there are some old threads on this, but none that answer my question. A lot of folks were doing the firmware update for the DVD-2910 to either ESS-6720-A (the May 2005 version on Denon’s website) or an ESS-6720-8 version found elsewhere. I just decided to update and had Denon mail me a firmware CD. My version after the update is ESS 8281-4. Does anyone know if this would be a newer version than what they have up on their website since it’s a higher number? The tech support people said “probably” but couldn’t give me a definite answer. Thanks.

I have no idea which in newer, but since I did my last FW update ~6mo's ago, the PQ on my player seems worse than before. I didn't really care because I had been using my PS3 for movies and the Denon for music. Since the PS3 is out for warranty work, I've been struggling with the 2910.
