I'm concidering using a DVD1720 for my new home theater as I don't want to invest a lot until the BlueRay/HDVD wars are over and i can buy the winner at a somehwat reasonable price. Does this make sence? Is this a reasonable choice?

My shopping list for the rest of the system includes:
Denon AVR-2807
Denon DVD-1720
Boston Acoustics VR3 for mains
Boston Acoustics VRX for surrounds
Boston Acoustics VRX for rears
Boston Acoustics VRC for center channel
Boston Acoustics PV1000 subwoofer
In Focus IN76
In Focus Ceiling Mount for IN76 SP-CEIL-UNIV
Screen Innovations Theater Reference 92" screen
Universal MX-850 Remote
Universal MRF-300 base station
Panamax 5100EX
TechCraft BEH38B
Berkline 090 Leather, Power Recliners
ImpactAcoustics cables

Unless Denon has greatly improved this model from last year's, which I own, I would look elsewhere. The video performance of my DVD-555 (the silver version of the DVD-1710) is good, but it has the slowest transport response I have ever experienced and is not acceptable. It literally takes 2-3 seconds from when you press a menu option to when you actually get to that part of the disc menu. (BTW - I only own the DVD-555 because it was given away with my Denon receiver.)

I think the Sony DVP-NS75H, Oppo OPDV971H, or Panasonic S77 would be better alternatives.
