I am looking for a good a/v receiver to push my tower speakers! i listen to mostly rock music and country. do you prefer one receiver over this one? i have a friend that owns the 395, just a step below it. what do you think? is this a good receiver?

You do know this has only two channels, doncha?

Since you specified an "AV receiver", which implies 5 or more channels I just wanted to mention this. If you don't want two channels. ignore the rest of this post.

As far as a two channel receiver goes, it's good. If you could forgo a tuner you might be better off looking into integrated amps, such as a NAD 352 or some of the offerings at http://www.audioadvisor.com. ...just a thought
