Denon AVR3805 audio/video problems

I just got my 3805 this week, but its got a few 'funnies'. Maybe someone can help me before I disconnect the entire unit, rebox it and take it back to the shop?!

1. the dvd player was using coax1 (digital audio) and the dvd video input when first connected. This worked. After some other fiddling and setup, the picture went.
2. Couldnt get the picture back, so moved the dvd player to vdp input, and redefined coax1 to use vdp. This also worked for a while, then when I was trying to 'code' the remote control for the various pieces (tv, dvd) the audio went on the vdp, never to return.
Using the analog inputs I have the same problem - I can get the audio using the dvd input, but not using the vdp. The video signal is the opposite. dvd doesnt work but vdp does.
3. Now I have the dvd player working on vhs-1 - both video and (digital or analog) audio.

Now to my mind this is a problem, but not a serious one - the 3805 has so many inputs, as long as I know whats what, the name is immateral to me.

Have I messed something up, or is the unit genuinely faulty?
If the latter, my concern is how long until vhs-1 goes, then vhs-2? A day after my warranty expires?
Has anyone else has similar problems with these units?

I suggest you call DENON and talk to a tech person, they have helped me. Whenever I call tech people at any company, I write out what I have done so far, and then list the questions I want answered so I do not have to call them again. Get the persons name so that if you have to call back, you do not have to start over. It may have been damaged in transit and you could return it to the dealer you bought it from for a replacement, or ask for another 30 days. Don't forget GOOGLE, just enter AVR-3805 and a few words of your problem. Good Luck
