Denon AVR2307 help with OSD

I wired my receiver last night ... the manual really does suck.

it tells you how to do this and that but forgets how to tell you how to get the OSD to work in the first place.

I have the receiver connected to the monitor using HDMI ... I can already get the DVD component signals upconverted to HDMI ... but I can't get the OSD to popup. Do I need a connection that's NOT HDMI going to the monitor? my HK needs composite for example.

As far as I know, the OSD is output in 480i. Some TV's, like mine, will not accept 480i over HDMI. I've never seen my OSD because I don't want to run the extra cable to the TV. You could probably run a composite line to the TV and get the OSD to display.

thanks Dave, will try the composite cable tonight

yup, it did need the composite cable to display the OSD. I thought that was a side effect of my Harman's lack of video upconversion.

first impressions on the 2307:

-frikkin hard to switch FM stations (no discrete "jump to channel 7" button)
-no sleep button. uh oh. that's a feature that's important to me in a bedroom receiver.
-only one switched outlet
-no 12v trigger (for something this expensive)
-stupid back and forth remote ... you have to click a button up front, flip it over, open the back panel ... then slick something there too.
-doesn't output OSD to HDMI

questions:
it didn't EQ my speakers, isn't that supposed to be automatic EQ? or is it manual EQ?

To be honest, I've never looked at that feature at all. And yes, the remote is awful.

On the 3806 you have to go into "setup" mode first to use Audyssey auto eq. I should be near the beginning of the manual as part of basic setup if it's like 3806 manual. I linked this thread a few days ago and did a cut and paste so I will just post the link for more Audyssey Auto EQ stuff from Audyssey it's elf. Post 144 if memory servers. One thing to take note of. During setup on the 3806 you use the circle thingie and there are times any normal human being would think the up and down buttons should be pushed, but in reality you need to push the left and right button.

Post 144.

Is there such a thing as a AVR-2307 and an AVR-2307CI. My CI has two switched outlets and two 12v triggers. Also, I think the Denon outputs the OSD over HDMI, but in 480i and some displays won't receive 480i over HDMI. Not 100% sure about that though.

my model is just the 2307 (no CI over here) :(

guess my samsung 40R71 LCD doesn't accept 480i through HDMI as well.

Audyssey and Auto EQ are one and the same on Denon receivers that have Audyssey to begin with. At least last years models handled it that way.
