Denon-AVR-X4000 vs Stereo Amp

I currently use Denon-AVR-X4000 to power KEF R500 in my gym room. I only use the stereo in my gym room to play music. Denon-AVR-X4000 is very powerful with 200 W per channel, should I just continue to use it or better trade this for a stereo amp and use it?

As mentioned, if it is working for music, no reason to change. If you have a use for the X4000 in a home theatre application, you can exchange. You will get the best sound output from the X4000. Then you can switch to Arena, Multi Channel, Stereo, .....etc., for the best sound to your ears.

Is the Denon not doing something you think a different amp would? You could even use the pre-outs on the Denon to add more powerful amps if you want....

Good point, still it’s a pretty average amp section. The kef r500 love power, get a nice 2ch amp to add to the denon. You won’t get the dynamic headroom from any avr.

Right, but as always, if the OP's setup/application does not need that extra headroom then it would make no difference. And we don't know the answer without knowing the seating/or standing (example: on the treadmill) distance and max spl he listens to.

That would depend on your listening levels but all speakers love power, they do nothing without some . They do swing low on impedance but are relatively sensitive, and I see this comment from using a similarly rated amp from Doug Schneider at SoundStage: Loud and clean weren’t the only things the KEF R500 did exceedingly well. The moment I hooked them up to the Eximus S1 amplifier I have in for review (125Wpc into 8 ohms), I heard a sound so full, pure, and refined that I knew in an instant that this $2600 pair of speakers was special.
