I know it's an odd title. Hopefully I won't make this too long. Pops bought a receiver, got confused by it, gave it to me to figure out which is a common practice.
When the unit is powered up it will give a message on the front display that says 'Set Up - Use TV'. Which I can't because there's no video to go by. But if I power it on and immediately turn the volume knob or input selector knob, it appears to function as it should. But there is never any sound or video from it. I connected an FM antenna and it scans through and finds local radio stations. I can connect my phone through blue tooth fine. I have found internet radio stations. It connects to an app I downloaded and used with my own receiver (AVr - 300) and also works with this unit in the same way. But no audio at all.
Video: The receiver is recognized by my Samsung Smart TV - it shows a green check mark, but also a red power symbol beside that check mark. If I unplug the HDMI cable, that connection disappears from the input options on the TV.
I have also gone into the set up and messed around in there, as well as doing the reset of pressing the + and - button with power to bring up the initializing message but still no change. The one thing that DID surprise me was doing the set up with the speaker configuration and the microphone connected - I DID get the beeping sound during the test which gave me hope but that's it. I know it's probably going to be some crazy setting or something painfully obvious that I'm doing wrong but I can't figure it out. And it's especially frustrating because I've had no problem with 3 previous Denon receivers. I don't know if my Dad got in there and changed something that somehow caused no video or audio output but I'd love if someone has any tip or an idea of what it is I'm doing wrong, or not seeing here. Denon is of no help whatsoever and their site is a nightmare.
