I have found two listings which state that either:

"the denon avr-985 is comparable to the avr-2805"

and even

"the denon avr-985 IS the avr-2805"

But I cannot find the 985 listed by Denon's site at all, even under their discontinued models. Can anyone tell me what exactly the 985 is, or where I can get some information?

I can't find that on the denon website either. From my local store, I have found out that they are the exact same unit, it is just that the 985 is the silver version. (There my be cosmetic differences, not sure on that).

Nobody has any more information on this? I thought the "s" was for the silver model. I have come across both the 2085s, identifying a silver model, as well as a 985s. In addition, why would an identical model have two model numbers? I'm confused and a little untrusting about a 985 listing. Anybody?

If you look at the front page of the operating instructions for the 2805 (available on the Denon website) the two numbers are listed "AVR-2805/985". The specs are the same, but the 985 is available for lower level stores than the prime boutique stores. You can find it on line for about $75 less than the 2805. Not available in Canada!!

The Avr-985 is 120V 60Hz input, the 2805 is 230V 50Hz. From previous replies from Denon and looking at the PDF spec sheet for both, the Tuner frequency range is slightly different for each model too. I had been told that a US tuner section would not work fullly in Europe on a 5805 (or was it 5803!!) US model. Anyway, you get the picture.
