I guess if 1080p is that important to you, go for it!! I don't think your getting more receiver by switching(maybe less;)). I've thought about it as well, but then again 720p or 1080i is good enough for most.:)

Well my thinking is I am a huge fan of HD and just a clear picture in general. That is what I was worried about, getting a less beefy receiver. I could pay $200 for an upconverting DVD player, and still not have my Xbox upconverted. I just need to know tonight because I have someone interested in buying my receiver. If I sell it, I would have to add another $100 to get that Denon.

I can't make that decision for you? However, I will say the 1080p would be nice if you commit to the HD dvd player also! I myself as well as most people, would like to see what develops in the format war, before we lay out more money. IMHO:)

Good Luck!

You mean for the 360? If I can upconvert regular DVDs I am not gonna buy the HD drive for the Xbox for a while.

Receiver features

Lots of receivers including my entry level Yamaha and your old 2500 have video format conversion: take a composite or svideo input and output over component video. There is no improvement in the PQ with this process, it just reduces the number of cables connected from the receiver to the display.

A few of the high end receiver include video upscalling to 1080i or 720p. The new yamaha RX-V2700 includes a high end ABT upscalling chip, but it costs about $1k more than what you got for your 2500. Don't expect to get a Denon receiver with video upscalling for $600. Also, the receiver upscalling is only usefull if it is better than the internal scaller on your HDTV.

Damn where was this knowledge 4 days ago? Oh well. The Denon will do what I need.

Receivers

Doesn't look like you sold the Yamaha yet, so there is still time. Return the Denon and invest $150-200 in an Oppo DVD player for a real PQ upgrade.

That should hold you over for a while until the HDMI and upscaling technologies make it into more receivers. I think you may find that the Denon model you list has less amp power and would be an audio downgrade from your Yamaha with no improvement in video perfromance (except HDMI switching).

Yea. too late. I already sold the Yami and bought the Denon. Oh well, live and learn. I wanted the Oppo too, but I still need an HD TV.
