Denon AVR-790 problems

I just bought and started using my new 790, and right now I have a couple of problems. I tried searching the forums but didn't see anything.

One problem is lip sync with the TV. I know I can just mute the TV, but for some reason I like hearing it all. Although I'm waiting for a new TV to be delivered Monday, I'm thinking it will likely have the same issue. I have the 790's delay set to 0, but I can hear the TV's audio a hair before the fronts (3.1). The TV is a 32" Toshiba Regza LCD, still fairly new as it only came out a couple of years ago, and I can't find anything about delaying its sound. The signal from the TV is going to the receiver via Toslink. Didn't have this problem with my 15 year old receiver and this TV, though the connection was with rgb cables. The new TV will be a 42" Panasonic plasma G10 series.

Another problem is with video upscaling. The 790 should be able to upscale everything to 1080p, and do it well according to a review I read. But last night I streamed a video from Netflix, which should mean that the receiver is getting it at 720p, but when I check the TV, it's still at 720p. So it's acting like a pass-through. There must be a setting I'm missing I guess, the manual isn't much help since half the time they assume you have a degree in electronics or something.

Anyway, if someone knows offhand that'd be great. Maybe I just need to look at the manual again. Thanks for any help.

I have the Regza 37" and had the same issue with HDMI when I connected by Xbox via HDMI to the TV. I just muted the tv and optical out from the XBox.

You need to read page 34. It looks like you have to go to i/p scaler and select Analog and HDMI and then select resolution to auto or 1080p.

If your already running 3.1, kill the TV's volume that will just muck up sound like it sounds like its doing. You should never run TV speakers if your running an outboard audio system for sound.:)

Thanks! I'm not blind, I just can't see (or read, apparently). :) I'll test this out tonight, but it sounds like a winner.

I received my new TV and hooked it up exactly like the Toshiba was, one HDMI and the toslink out. This TV (Panasonic) has no sync issue, it's spot on with the receiver sound. I usually do cut the TV sound, but sometimes the Toshiba's sound was pretty good at creating an artificial 5.1 effect, called 3D sound, iirc. Haven't really found the same thing with the Panny, I turned something on called AI sound, but didn't really like that. But I'm definitely getting two more speakers soon, maybe today, so I'll have a true 5.1. :D
