Hey all
i realise i have discussed what receiver to go with for my system a few times already here but i can get the denon AVR-789 (almost equivalent to the 1909 apart from something on the remote and second zone I THINK) for $920 thats very cheap in australia on this particular receiver
does anyone recommend this receiver or have additional information on it i should know b4 buying. Also what am i missing out on with this receiver compared to the 2309 (my original decision) apart from the additional 10 watts per channel
Thanks for all the help

To me the main the lack of preouts is a show stopper. I would go for the 989/2309. I read a review on the 989 last week and was surprised to see that it turned out very nice bench test results, e.g. 100W with 5 channel driven simultaneously. The output into 4 ohms was impressive too.

All Denon's seem to do well on the bench. It's likely the 789 will easily hit its stated 90 wpc spec which should be plenty for most speakers negating the need for an external amp and thus preouts. OP, what speakers do you have?

Hey Tim

Congrats on the new receiver. The one thing you can be certain about Denon is they're very reliable and therefore easy to sell if the need to upgrade becomes apparent.
Regards, Bill :)
