Denon AVR-687 Zone 2 Over Coax Issue

Hello,
I recently went from a stereo analog connection to a digital coax connection for sound between my DVD player and Denon receiver. I just made a quick change and assigned the audio for the DVD option to Coax and the primary speakers work great.

I figured that the Zone 2 of the receiver would be just fine after this change as it was also set to DVD. For some reason, no sound came out of the Zone 2 speaker (patio speaker). I plugged the stereo analog connection back in and it worked. I am unable to find a place where I specifically assign the coax cable as the input for Zone 2.

Thanks for any help!

You HAVE to have an analog connection for Zone 2 on the vast majority of receivers. It's ok to have both analog and digital. Keep your assignment for digital coax for DVD but also connect the analog cables and zone 2 should work fine.

The reason for this restriction is simply that to support digital connections for zone 2, the receiver would need an additional dac because it has to convert from digital to analog before amplifying the signal. That adds cost and none of them (that I know of) do it.

Thanks for the reply. I thought I was going crazy since I couldn't figure it out.
