Denon AVR 687. Can't make optical audio connection.

Time Warner upgraded my cable box a couple days ago. The new box no longer supports my audio connection and I now have to use the optical audio connection. I bought a cable and connected the opti out of the cable box to the opti-1 port in the Denon AVR 687. I was praying for a miraculous connection that would produce sound but no go. I have looked at the manual and can not decipher if there is a switch to throw that will tell the Denon to use the opti port...... any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks.

You need to go into the input assignment menu and tell the receiver you are using a digital connection. Page 38 of your manual has some info at the bottom of the page about the inputs and assignments.

Hi Pete , welcome to the forum!
2 things come to mind:
1. Is optical 1 assigned to in you're receiver menus ?
2. On your new cable box menus, are they set to PCM or multi channel output?
I'm not familiar with either model but I remember having to assign my digital inputs to the source selected on my denons.
Cheers, Mac
