That is a very good deal for the 5803, only question in my mind is whether it is actually now better than the 4806.

I don't know if it's better or not but the 4806 lists for $3,500 or $1,400 more. I don't think it's that much better. ;)

It's not. I was about to put down $2300 for a 5803, but ended up with a fantastic 3805 for $740. Compare the specs side by side. There's no reason to spend that much cash on an older Denon IMHO. Go with the newer technology when in doubt.

It may list for $1400 more than that sale price, but you can probably buy it from your home theater store for 20% off that 3500, or $2800ish.

Considering the 5805 is much beefier than the 5803, im inclined to believe the 4806 is probably similar, or closer to the 5803 (if not better), than the 3805, plus you really cant go wrong with the HDMI upconversion.

The AVR-4806 is meant as the direct replacement to the AVR-5803, though the amp section of the 4806 isn't quite as beefy as the older 5803, it does have a more impressive feature set such as Audyssey, HDMI/DVI, etc.

The 5805 is in its own category as a multi distribution surround solution and in no way meant to be an uprated 5803.
