Denon AVR-487 and heat

Hi All,

I have the Denon AVR-487 Receiver and I have a 42" plasma. I have it on the following Entertainment stand, ikea besta jagra. Sorry I cannot post links but you can goto ikea's website to see it.

As you can see the besta jagra has a shelf where the front and back are open. I currently have the receiver in this spot. I can get 3-4" of clearance on the sides but there is only 1/2" clearance for the top. I put a thermometer on top of the top vent and it showed about 125 degrees.

Questions:
1. Since there is nothing blocking the front or back opening and adequate side clearance and the temperature is about 125 degrees above it would you put the receiver in this space?

2. If 125 degrees is not hot enough, at what temperature should I start worrying?

Thanks

I'm not that up on Denons but that's not enough room over any receiver. I'd start thinking about a fan to blow air across the top.

If this helps... Its a guide how to take a PC fan and hook it up to an AC adapter for power...

I'd done this when my PS3 had no clearance, just installed them into my old school HT furniture unit, by cutting into the backing it had. Braced the fans to it.

Its really simple, and you could probably even just grab a soldering iron too, get it sorted. I'd just advise to wrap the whole live end with electrical tape after you're done.

Warning though, as some dude pointed out in the comments: "You may want to check that the voltage of your adapter is the same as the voltage of your fan. Keep in mind this method is if you DON'T want to destroy your adapter. I would recommend stripping and soldering the wires for a more permanent application.
Best regards,
Tim Matheson".

I just assumed you wouldn't overly care about what happens to a cheap big PC fan or some old blackberry wall adapter you've had in a wire drawer somewhere.
