Just picked up a Denon Avr-486 7.1 for $100, works great sounds great, only problem is I am not sure how to get all 7 speakers to work instead of just 5 it is in 5 speaker mode and can't figure out how to get it to 7 speaker mode. Also I do not have the remote for it, so any help without having to have the remote would be awesome. Have it hooked in through my tv audio out and into the tv input on the receiver.

You need to check your manual for this. In case you don't have one, here's a copy.

You might want to save a copy to your computer. Trust me, you're gonna need it.

Again, you need to check the manual. Be aware that you might be limited (or at least handicapped) as to what you can do with a remote. It might behoove you to search one out.

A fine receiver for cheap ain't no bargain if you can't access the most useful features. That's like being married to a beautiful woman who won't let you touch her.

I could be wrong, but I think the most you can get out of this is two-channel stereo, and maybe use DPL for fake multi-channel.

enjoy...

you're last part confused me about the fake multi-channel. So is it worth $60 to get a remote to make things tenfold easier?

As you read the manua and learn more about this hobby, it will make sense. Suffice it to say it won't be anywhere near the "real" digital 5.1 you get from a DVD.

This is assuming your using the red/white analog outputs. If you use an optical output you might get 5.1 on some channels that are from the TV's internal HD tuner.

So is it worth $60 to get a remote to make things tenfold easier?
If there's nothing wrong with the receiver and you can get a factory or exact) replacement for $60, that would be a bargain. A universal may not do everythig you need.

Okay, I know I won't get that, I just enjoy the surround haha. But anyways yeah it's an exact remote for this receiver for $60 just seemed pricey haha

Well, you do't HAVE to get the remote. You don't need a car either but it sure makes life easier.

It's your choice though.
