Denon AVR-4806 and Dishplayer DVR remote

To all,

I have a Denon AVR-4806 hooked up to a Dishplayer DVR 522.

I through put all video and audio to the Denon and watch on Sony tube.

In an effort to hold on to only one remote at a time....usually the Dishplayer IR remote, I want to be able to control the Denon's volume up/down, mute, and possibly power on and off.

But I can't get the Dishplayer IR remote's AUX device button to work at all!

I have tried codes 647 and 674 per the Displayers instruction manual. It says these codes are for Denon products. I have tried scanning for Denon device codes, but it doesn't find the right codes.

Has anyone resolved this issue with the Displayers remote?

Thanks,

PK Davis

I shouldn't post this but maybe someone else will have the same question and I won't sit on my a$$ and not spread some knowledge.

Perhaps I posted in the wrong area, but the moderators didn't move the post. Perhaps I didn't ask the question in the right way, but there were no posts for clarification.

I thought I asked a pertinent question. Sorry I'm not up to your pompous level.

Here is a very definitive answer to my question. No thanks to anyone here.

The TV1 remote that came with my Dish Player 522 is a "5.0 IR" part number
"118575" . This info is found on the bottom of the remote near the head.

This particular remote will accept Denon codes 647 and 674 on the AUX button, but it WILL NOT control the Denon AVR-4806.

I got a new Dish remote from EBay for $20 shipping $9....total $29.

Here are the specifics:

This remote is the new Dish replacement remote. It is a "6.2 IR/UHF Pro" part number "137174" FCC ID "DKNFSK03". It comes with the colored keys that go in the bottom to make it TV1 (Green), TV2 UHF Pro (blue), TV1 UHF Pro (Green), and just UHF Pro (Silver). This remote accepts 5 more Denon codes in addition to the other 2. Codes 757, 758, 759, 760, 762. Code 759 on the AUX button controls the Denon AVR-4806. I can control: power on/off, mute, sound up/down. Probably more but I don't care.......

My whole point in all this. I usually use the Denon to funnel satellite audio/video and would rather hold on to just 1 remote. That being the Satellite remote, so I can switch channels etc.......Before I couldn't control the volume without having the Denon remote close by. NOW I can do it ALL!!!!!!

2nd point is.....I didn't have to buy a high dollar universal remote.

Thank,

PK Davis

What a great way to introduce yourself to the forum - NOT! Did you ever consider that those who did happen to view your question didn't have an answer and chose not to post 'Sorry, I don't know'? Did you consider that someone that might be able to give you some guidance (me) hadn't seen your post? It is you with the pompous attitude demanding an answer quickly when sometimes that is just not possible.

Just for your own education, your 'definitive answer' is no answer at all. You don't understand how pre-programmed remotes and setup codes work. On a pre-programmed remote the 'setup codes' are nothing more than a number that identifies a table in memory with commands for a particular brand or device. Those commands CHANGE over time with some manufacturers. New features are added to devices and the old setup code doesn't have an entry for the new feature. There are other reasons such as the IR protocol differs from one model year to the next (NEC1 vs NEC2 for example) and many others. In your case, the setup codes available that said they would control Denon products just don't match your equipment. That is the MAIN issue with pre-programmed remotes that are not upgradeable and is the whole reason Harmony remotes were created - to maintain a live database of codes so they can be upgraded on the fly. A 'high dollar' universal remote would have solved your problem easily because you can program it to control anything.

So you got lucky and found a new version of the dish remote that has added setup codes for newer Denon equipment. Did you really expect people to be familiar with the new dish remote's setup codes? Did you happen to notice that the new setup codes use DIFFERENT numbers? They've added a new set of codes and kept the old ones intact for backwards compatibility.

You obviously have a lot to learn and this is the place to come for said education, but you won't get very far with that attitude.

Charming,

Some of the things you mention that aren't quite right:

1 why wouldn't people in the forum be familar with both Denon and Dish? The two can't live in harmony together? I did sort of expect people here to at least give some information. I know that there are a lot of highly intelligent people here, certainly yourself being one of them. Thank you for the explanation of set up codes, it makes sense.

2 my definitive answer gives exact information on which one works and which one doesn't, including the codes. I mentioned all 7 of the code numbers. I noticed the difference and posted it.

3 I didn't demand anything. I just watched as my post sank lower and lower with no response, while I went about solving the problem, then I posted an answer.

4 I didn't 'get lucky' I knew the remote I purchased would work. I got help on another site.

Are you bipolar? Your response is like a husband saying 'I love you' while he beats the crap out of his wife. YOU are uninformed on this topic and then berate the members of the forum for not giving you an answer quickly and then turn around and say, 'aw shucks, I got help elsewhere - sorry for saying you are all a bunch of worthless a-holes'.

You get all pissed off that nobody has answered your question in your expected timeframe and you throw out all kinds of insults. You can't expect the majority of people here to have a dish with that particular remote and know the details of the setup code you posted nor know that dish has made available another remote with upgraded setup codes.

Yes, but had you been aware of how pre-programmed remotes work then you would have investigated whether a new one with more setup codes was available before you posted. You didn't know that and that is fine but instead of waiting for someone to answer or even reposting with 'hey, any ideas' or something along those lines, you instead chose to berate the members of the forum for not responding to your 'emergency'.

HELLO, MCFLY? YOU OBVIOUSLY DEMANDED AN ANSWER BECAUSE WHEN YOU DIDN'T GET ONE YOU TURNED TO INSULTS. HOW DARE THE FORUM MEMBERS NOT HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YOU IN A NEW YORK MINUTE!

Good for you. You got lucky because someone gave you an exact model number to go buy rather than inform you of how the remote works so you will know what to do next time. Let me guess, it was a site dedicated SOLELY to Dish Network, huh?

MDS,

you seem to have the problem.

I'm not bipolar. Wife beater? NO....r u?

You have no idea as to my knowledge on the subject matter and you resort to having to prove your seeming superiority by disrepecting me. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have thanked you for your explanation of setup codes, I meant it in all sincerity. But I didn't know you would go off like this.

I didn't say aw shucks or apologize for anything, please don't put words in my mouth. I'm not pissed at anyone, nor did I throw out insults. You are the one that seems to be testy.

I'll tell you what I expect, MDS, I thought perhaps in the forum of expertise that someone, some one person, might have my set up. I don't think it is unique. Or that someone might have seen a post or question along the same lines and be able to point me in the right direction.

I don't think it's been a minute, MDS.....its been more like 4 days, and the post was sinking further and further down the list.

I'm not one for using the bump method, like you suggest. I'll leave that obnoxious method of being heard to you.

Chill out dude. Thanks for the welcome mat.

Mulester7,

Thanks for your post.

You're right, there could be no other reason for people not to post an answer.

I guess MDS wears a black hat!

To the whole site,

I apologize to the entire group for my 2nd post it was testy and uncalled for.

Now I have to stand up to berating of MDS.

Can someone tell me the best way to decipher if a post is being ignored or if people truly don't have an answer?

Thank you,

PK Davis

Hilarious. You disrespect the entire forum and yet expect respect in return. Respect has to be earned. As to your knowledge of the subject, obviously it is zero or you wouldn't have posted the question in the first place and then be pissed off that nobody responded.

Nope, you sure didn't apologize. Re-read your post and then tell us with a straight face that you are not pissed and you didn't throw out any insults. I wasn't quoting you exactly - that's the implied tone of your post, but you aren't sharp enough to get it.

Someone could have pointed you in the right direction had they seen the post. You ddin't get a response and turned to verbal assault.

Right. Instead of a simple reminder, you tell everyone they are worthless. I guess you don't see that as obnoxious and AGAIN - you didn't get a response in YOUR expected timeframe. 4 minutes, 4 days, 2 weeks, it's all the same - NOBODY OWES YOU ANYTHING AND POSTING INFLAMMATORY COMMENTS WILL NOT MAKE PEOPLE EAGER TO HELP YOU IN THE FUTURE!

It should be obvious what got me hot about your posts. You come here asking for help but then turn around and criticise everyone because they didn't meet your expectations in your timeframe.

Polite and respectful newbies come here all the time and get answers to their questions and stick around to become contributing members in their own right. Your kind is not welcome - just go away.

Hey MDS,

I don't respect you, people like you don't deserve it. You seem to have to make me look dumb to elavate yourself to the level of teacher. Well, I don't need your kind of teaching.

Sorry you have to be such a tard about such an insignificant thing.

Are you a liberal? You sure whine like one.

What is your status here? Are you a moderator? Can you speak for the site and tell me to go away?

.....PKD, MDS is respected at this site very much, and by me especially....he has answered many questions most brilliantly that sat for days unanswered....but, we all have our days, and certain buttons that can be pushed anytime....you'll have to admit, your second post was certainly eligible for button-pusher of the month....I can also understand your confusion over not being answered, but hey, let's just write this one off to experience, and maybe we've all learned here....signed, Definite Liberal, haha.......

Mulester7,

I admit and apologized for my second post.

I was then gigged by him again after that.

I will stick up for myself. I am not dumb as MDS implies with his "not sharp enough to get it" statement.

Thank you Mulester7 for being a voice of reason.

I guess I will step in and say enough is enough! MDS has a valid point. It is not kosher for a new member to come to our forums raising hell because his question didn't get any responses. I have actually posted a couple of threads myself w/o any response. I never took it upon myself to scold everyone for not "caring" enough to help me. Next time use the "bump" method, I can guarantee you that you will have a better chance getting the answers you are looking for.

As a newbie I learned a lot from this thread. The things that I learned from this thread will add up to my knowledge and someday can help me fulfill my dream of becoming an Audioholic Samurai or higher in a decade or so and help up the audiophytes or newbies with or without an atttude. Not only that I learned about the Da Vinci code of the remote controls. I also found out that I can use the "bump" method so that I can get an answer to my questions. Because I too had questions in these forum that got buried in its own grave and did not get any response. I just do a search method in the forum and luckyly enough found the answer from the other thread.
I also learned in this thread the meaning of bipolar. Now I am thinking that my wife is bipolar. Because sometimes she will say that my audio system sounds so good and sings a long with FM radio music ( of course - love songs). But some other day she will nag that I am spending too much money on that worthless piece of s*#t. GRRRrrrrr, then she is making me go bipolar. I love her but i want to beat the s*#t out of her when she does that.:) But I also learned from this thread that I have to be nice to others not only in this forums but also to my everyday walks of life including my wife.
Thanks guys for all lessons that I learned here. May the bright side of the best sound pressure at +-3 db be with you all always.

Tarub,

Welcome to the forum! Where you will be able to find your answers, eventually. I have found that there is a definite wealth of information here.

You just need to know how to be patient.

I can see you have a sense of humor. I like that.

As I have been told, you will find some with white hats here and some with black hats. I'll let you decide.

Continued good knowledge,
