Denon AVR-4306 HDMI connection problems

I am having a problem getting my Denon AVR-4306 receiver to work with HDMI. Currently I have my Bell Expressvu HD satellite receiver connected directly to my Toshiba HDTV (57HX93). The TV has a DVI connection, and the HDMI cable is connected with an HDMI/DVI adaptor. It works fine.

I wanted to use the capabilities of the AVR-4306 to convert all my various inputs (component etc) running into the receiver, to one HDMI out. This would eliminate my having to switch my TV's inputs when I am using various devices.

Prior to connecting the HDMI from the satellite receiver to the Denon, and from the Denon to my TV, I shut everything off. I then turned on the Denon and attempted to reconfigure my connections. I found the manual very confusing, but what I did was opt for "pass through" from my Expressvu to the Denon. I left everything else unchanged, hoping I would get a signal. When I turned on the TV and sat receiver, there was no picture. I fiddled a bit with other setup options but nothing helped. I then stopped, and reconnected my TV back to the sat receiver and the signal returned.

I was hoping that someone could help me on this. I was also thinking that perhaps the Denon doesn't like the fact that the Toshiba has a DVI in. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same problems with my 4806, turns out the receiver was broken and needed some type of HDMI upgrade or something.

In it's absence, I bought a Denon AV 897. For the money it's a great little receiver, and very powerful. It drives the Axiom's with no issues whatsoever.

The HDMI in and outs work fine on this one, but I did have to do a little fiddling with the set up.

First, I set my satellite box to receive "ALL" signals
(720i, 1080i, etc.), and then I made sure the "Native" feature was turned off.

Now to the Denon. Here, I set the "HDMI in ASSIGN" to whichever input you're going to use (I use the DBS function), then I set the "Video Convert" for the DBS to "OFF". You do not want to down convert the HDMI signal here since it is already HDMI. Finally, I set the "HDMI Out Setup" to on for my other component connections that do need to be converted.

That should do it for you. If not, call Denon. Your receiver may be broken also.
