Hello, could you please clarify something for me regarding the AVR-3808CI? Does this unit accept uncompressed 7.1 ch. LPCM audio via HDMI input, or is it just 5.1 ch.? The best I can get so far is 7.1 matrixed or non matrixed output ie: Dolby digital + plIIx or one of the other simulated modes to get output from my surround back speakers ( I've tried with the AFDM on and off resulting in no difference: this is the same result I got out of my Yamaha RX-V2600 7 channel receiver which only accepted 5.1 LPCM from what I've read online: hence the reason for this upgrade to Denon. I am feeding 7.1 PCM material (the movie 3:10 to Yuma on Blue-Ray disk) from my Sony PS3 player which clearly shows that the signal is sending out 7.1 ch., yet I do not get any sound from the surround back speakers unless I use one of the settings I've mentioned. Having just bought this unit, I have confirmed that the firmware on it has the first update and not the second yet. Any help in sorting this out would be :confused:greatly appreciated.

Regards, Attila

I have a 3808ci and watched 3:10 to Yuma on BD on my PS3 with all 7 channels working. First make sure you have the most recent update for your PS3. Mine would only output 2 channels until I updated the software (mine came w/ v1.55). Post back after you upgrade to v2.10 and let us know if that solved it.

Forgot, also make sure in your PS3's BD setting & audio setups you have checked all the appropriate output options.

re: 3808CI accepting and passing 7.1 ch LPCM audio

PS3 FW already at 2.10 and hdmi audio is set to lpcm. As I mentioned the Sony displays 7.1pcm when I hit the display button. let me try to further clarify: My auto surround is set to on as well. As for SB CH Out: it is set to non matrix (have tried the others as well.) The end result is that I am hearing the back speakers and showing 7.1 spkr icons under word MONITOR on the right side of the unit's flourescent display but, on the left side of the diplay, it shows DIG PCM with 5.1 spkr icons under that. I would expect that to show 7.1; thus leaving me with the notion that I am only getting 5.1 in and outputting a quazzi 7.1 out.
Any further thoughts?
Attila

N.B. I am in the process of obtaining the last FW update on the Denon; don't know if that will change anything:confused:

Problem solved. As it turns out it was the Denon that was in need of the latest FW update. Display on the Denon now shows MULTI Ch IN 7.1 and all is well with the world :)
BTW thanks for your suggestions.
