Does is there anyone using the AVR-3806? I'd like to know what the advantages are in using the extras set of surround outputs on the receiver.
Right now I have it set up as front left, front right, center channel, left side surround, right side surround, and rear left surround and rear right surround, and a left and right sub. = 7.1 setup.
My question is, the 3806 has another set of side surround outputs!
So I’m not sure what they are for and how they would be mixed in.
I mean that would give me a 9.1 surround setup.....

Nope you are using all of the amps it has - if you want to run a zone 2 you'll need an outboard amp.

If you have left and right subs, you have a 7.2 system.

I believe those are A/B surround outputs. So that if you have dedicated speakers for music and for movies you can switch between your rears (monopole vs. dipole/bipole)
