Can Anyone Help a Newbie??? - Denon AVR-3806 Settings

I have a Denon DVD-2910 DVD player and Denon AVR-3806 receiver and would like help in choosing the best settings to watch Star Wars 3. Can anyone who owns at least the AVR-3806 direct me in which buttons to press to yield the best picture and sound quality? I am using a HDMI cable from the DVD-2910 to a SONY 40 inch LCD. I have wired the speakers for 5.1 surround sound.

I am able to get a picture and surround sound, but with the various options, I just don't understand which settings will yield the best quality picture and sound.

BTW, one of the reasons I am asking for help is that I connected a HD cable box to my SONY LCD, watched a program in HD, and was blown away by the picture. When I played the Star Wars 3 DVD last night for the first time, I found that the picture was in no way comparable to the picture quality of the HD program. Is this a setting issue on the AVR-3806 or a difference in what can be expected between HD programs and DVDs???

Your assistance will be very much appreciated!

well for one thing, HD is 780p normally....while DVD's are still 480i unless you have a progressive scan DVD player. so the only way you can slightly improve your picture quality for DVD's short of waiting for HD-DVD's or BluRay is buy yourself a decent upconverting DVD player

In regard to Golovko's suggestion, you've already done it. I think your Denon DVD-2910 is more than a descent upconverting player. It may just be the fact that the DVD isn't high def, even after being up converted, it won't look like the true HD signal you get via your HD Box.

This should give you the answers. Unfortunately, it is not a simple answer.
